Knight & Wendling Lead Racers At Mission Inn Event

The Murray State men's golf squad fired their best round of the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular and came home with a 10th place finish at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

The Racers' 301 in the final round went with scores of 314 and 307 from the first day of play and gave them a total score of 922, ahead of Presbyterian (932) and Florida A&M (933).

Austin Knight and Justin Wendling shared 23rd place and had MSU's top finishes. Knight posted rounds of 80=75=72=227, while Wending carded scores of 77-77-73=227. Gabe Wheeler and Lance Davis shared 45th place. Wheeler on scores of 79-77-78=234 and Davis with scores of 78-78-78=234. Avery Edwards withdrew from the event after the first round.

Connor Coombs was in the event as an individual for the Racers and placed 37th after rounds of 74-75-82=231.

TCU was the winner at 866, with Toledo (886), Indiana (888), USC Upstate (892) and Florida Atlantic (902) rounding out the top-5.

A field of 85 players battled the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn at a distance of 6,834 yards and a par of 72.

David Ravetto of TCU was the medalist winner after scores of 70-69-70=209.

Murray State's next event is the FAU Slomin Autism Championship (March 23-25) at Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton, Fla.
