SIU Takes Tight One At Racer Field

The Murray State softball team dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Southern Illinois Wednesday afternoon at Racer Field in Murray, Kentucky.
Neither team was able to score until the fifth inning when Maddy Vermejan triples to score two and break open the scoreless ties. Vermejan would then score herself on the next at bat on a sacrifice fly from Susie Baranski to make it 3-0.
Lillie Goetz finally got Murray State on the scoreboard in the sixth when she was plated by a single from Madison Culver, after beginning the inning with a double. That run, however, would be the Racers' only of the game, as the fell 3-1.
Murray State had only five hits in the game, but had their chances, as it stranded six on the afternoon. Grace Vaughn took the loss for Murray State after allowing three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks over five innings, while Haven Campbell gave up no runs on two hit with a walk and a strikeouts in the final two frames.
The Racers return to action Friday when they travel to Cookeville for a doubleheader against Tennessee Tech at 3 p.m.
