A trio of Racers were named to 2018 All-OVC team at the Ohio Valley Conference tennis banquet in Nashville, Tenn., Thursday evening. Claire Chang was named to the All-OVC first team while Stasya Sharapova and Aarja Chakraborty were named to the All-OVC second team.
"All three are very deserving of these awards, and I am sure they know they wouldn't be able to get this award without the help of their teammates," said head coach Jorge Caetano.
"Claire grew so much as a player and a competitor this year. She stepped up as our number one player leading this team on the court and I am very happy for her."
Chang played every game she was in at the number one single spot, going 13-6 in dual play and 6-2 when playing conference opponents. Chang was also named as one of the top-10 OVC players in the preseason polls earlier this year.
"It's very exciting for Aarja and Stasya to get this recognition as freshmen, they brought a lot of positive things to our program and a boost in our team's confidence the moment they stepped on campus."
Chakraborty saw action in the number two and three singles spot this year. As the number two she went 1-1, and at the number three spot where she played most of the year, recorded a record of 7-3. Chakraborty went 10-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
Sharapova ended the season playing three positions, with most of her play coming in the number two singles spot, where she went 9-10. In total, Sharapova went 12-17 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
"I feel for Amina not being selected after having an incredible season where she went 15-1 playing at the number three and four spots for us all year. In our eyes, she is an all-conference player and I am confident she is going to play an amazing tournament for us."
Amina Hadzic was a force on the court for the Racers this year, going 15-1 overall and 8-1 in conference play. Before losing the last match against Eastern Kentucky, she had a 15 game winning streak.
Murray State plays next in the semifinal round of the OVC tournament, where they'll play the winner of Austin Peay and UT Martin on Saturday, April 21.Â
