Murray State head coach Mitch Stewart is pleased to announce several additions and promotions to his staff. Internally, Jake Johnson has been promoted to defensive coordinator, Brian Hamilton has been elevated to assistant head coach and Carson Hunter will now coordinate all recruiting efforts and coach the running backs.
On the offensive side, Nick Coleman will join the Racers as offensive coordinator and coach the wide receivers, while Alex Suber will coach the inside wide receivers and Josh Hollingsworth will become the offensive graduate assistant.
Defensively, Tate Omli comes aboard to coach the safeties and serve as the special teams coordinator, while Charles Jones joins as the cornerbacks coach and Walter Vaughn takes over as defensive line coach. Additionally, Brandon Corbin will also join the Racer staff as equipment manager.
Coleman comes to Murray State after serving as the quarterbacks coach at OVC rival Tennessee Tech. Prior to his time in Cookeville, he spent three seasons at Itawamba CC as the offensive coordinator, in addition to coaching the quarterbacks and coordinating the Indians' recruiting efforts. Before Itawamba, Coleman spent time at NAIA Faulkner and at his alma mater, Middle Tennessee as a graduate assistant.
Suber joins Stewart's staff after serving as the defensive coordinator at Lyon and as a graduate assistant at Bethune-Cookman. Prior to coaching, the Middle Tennessee standout spent six seasons in the Canadian Football League, including four with the Winnepeg Blue Bombers. Suber had 60-plus tackles in each of his four seasons in Winnepeg, as well as at least one fumble recovery.
Hollingsworth joins the Racers after coaching the quarterbacks and men's golf at Huntsville High School. Hollingsworth put together an All-American career as a player at Faulkner as he passed for 11,532 yards and 111 touchdowns. After playing and serving on Faulkner's coaching staff for a year, he spent time in Finland playing in the Vaahteraliiga for the Helsinki Roosters.
Omli joins the Racers staff after spending a year at Eastern Michigan as a graduate assistant. He has also had coaching stops at East Carolina, Angelo State and his alma mater Northern Iowa. Omli played two years at Butler Community College before transferring to UNI where he was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer team and earned National Player of the Week honors for his 17 tackles against Missouri State. He is also no stranger to Murray State as his younger brother, Toby, played for the Racers from 2015 to 2016.
Jones comes to Murray after five years at East Central Community College, serving primarily as the safeties coach. Jones began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State, before spending time at the high school level. Following his playing career at Alabama, Jones spent one season with the New York Giants and one with the Georgia Force of the Arena Football League.
Vaughn joins the Racers after serving two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Highland Community College. Between two stints at Highland, he was also a graduate assistant at Colorado State and before that served in a quality control capacity at Eastern Kentucky. Vaughn played collegiately at Southeastern Louisiana before earning a Master's at Troy.
Corbin comes to Murray State after serving as the quarterbacks and passing game coach at Bethel (Tenn.). He also spent time at North Texas as a recruiting and social media assistant and as a head coach at Washington High School in Kansas.
