Racers Take Away Positives From Ball State Invitational

The Murray State tennis team continued their fall season as they competed in the Ball State Invitational on September 21-22 in Muncie, Indiana. Included alongside the Racers in the tournament were host Ball State, Detriot Mercy, and Dayton.Â
The Ball State Invitational featured a hidden dual match format, meaning the teams will play in a similar format as a dual match, but will not play the same team in doubles or singles in the same day.Â
"We did not play well this weekend, said head coach Jorge Caetano. "But looking on the bright side, we were able to be very competitive and get some good wins without playing our best tennis."
In Friday's singles play, the Racers fared well against the Dayton Flyers, winning five of its first six matches on the day. Unfortunately, Murray State could not find as much success against the Ball State Cardinals. The Cardinals claimed wins in the remainder of singles matches despite a valiant effort by MSU.Â
The Racers split in doubles action Friday. Anja Loncarevic and Stasya Sharapova were able to gain the victory for Murray State against Detroit Mercy.Â
On Saturday, the Racers took three of six doubles matches. MSU first win came from the duo of Anja Loncarevic and Stasya Sharapova, who earned a win over Dayton. Last week's APSU Invitational Doubles Runners-up Amina Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic found success with wins against both Dayton and Ball State.
The Racers finished the day in singles action with two wins out of four versus the Detroit Mercy Titans.
"The girls are doing a fantastic job getting out of their comfort zone and trying to execute in matches the things we have been working on during practices. It is not a great feeling when we know we could have won an extra hand full of matches and we will work on what went wrong in those matches so we don't make the same mistakes," reiterated coach Caetano.
