Racers Open Season With Win
9/30/2018 11:17:00 PM | Rifle
The fourth-ranked Murray State rife team began its 2018-19 season with a 4691-4528 win over UT Martin Sunday at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky.
"This was a really good match for opening weekend, we really enjoyed all the festivities surrounding family weekend, it makes for a really good atmosphere and just a great way to kick off the year," said head coach Alan Lollar after the match. "I was real proud with the job the team did, our smallbore is the highest recorded in the NCAA so far this year. Our air rifle was down, but that's ok because it's early in the year and this is just the beginning of this journey."
MacKenzie Martin led all Racers with an 1176 aggregate, while Meike Drewell followed closely behind with an 1175. Martin and fellow senior Barbara Schläpfer each led Murray State in smallbore with a 588, while Drewell was two off at 586.
In air rifle, Drewell and Alathea Sellars posted a team-high 589, while Martin followed at 588 and freshman Kelcy McGrath turned in a 587.
The Racers return to action next weekend when they travel to Oxford, Mississippi for their first tri-match of the season.
