Bench Helps Lift Racers Past Colonels

The Murray State women's basketball team got 20 points from its bench, including 12 from Alexis Burpo, to get their first OVC win, 81-63, over Eastern Kentucky Saturday night at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers shot 40.0-percent in the first quarter, but turned the ball over eight times, gifting the Colonels 10 points and allowing them to lead 17-14 at the end of the first. However, in the second, the Racers found their stroke and outscored Eastern Kentucky, 23-11, in the period and led by nine at the break. The Racers continued to pour it on after halftime, including shooting 42.2 percent in the fourth quarter, to pick up their first OVC win of the season.
Evelyn Adebayo picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Lex Mayes followed with 16 points. In addition to Burpo's 12 points, she also added seven points. Janika Griffith-Wallace rounded out the MSU players in double-digits with 11 points, to go along with five assists.
On Thursday, the Racers will begin a four-game road trip at UT Martin. Tip-off from the Elam Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
