The Murray State women's golf squad sets their sights on participating in the 16th annual Cardinal Cup Friday through Sunday at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
Â
The Racers are coming off a second place showing at the Chris Banister Classic at Silver Springs Golf Course in Glencoe, Alabama (Oct. 8) where Raeshya Surendran won her first collegiate medalist title with Murray State.
Â
MSU Coach Velvet Milkman sends out a lineup to the Cardinal Cup that includes Surendran, who was last week's Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week and leads the OVC in scoring with a 73.1 average. Ana Garcia Picchi is second in the league with a 74.9 average and is joined in the lineup by Payton Carter, Sarah McDowell and Eliza Mae Kho. Lucila Puente Rodriguez is playing the event as an individual.
Â
MSU's appearance at the UL event marks their fifth appearance since their first in 2013 and seventh overall. Playing in a field of teams and on a course that is similar to an NCAA Regional, the test has sharpened the Racers in the past. MSU placed 12th a year ago with their best score in the event of 883 and eventually appeared in the NCAA women's golf regional. MSU's top individual finish in the UL event was by Delaney Howson in 2013 when she placed fourth with a total score of 217 and team placed sixth.
Â
The UL course will play to a yardage of 6,393 and to a par of 72.
Â
Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com
Â
The Racers are part of a field of 17 teams including Ball State, Campbell, Chattanooga, East Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Mercer, Minnesota, Middle Tennessee State, Murray State, Richmond, South Dakota, Washington, Western Kentucky, and Wisconsin.
