Racers Conclude Fall Season with Multiple Championships at MSU Invitational

Murray State women's tennis hosted the MSU Fall Invitational over the weekend, concluding their fall schedule with the two-day event that included singles and doubles matches against players from Eastern Illinois, Belmont, and Western Kentucky. The Racers went 20-6 overall, claiming five singles championships and a doubles title to wrap up the fall campaign.

Claire Chang, Sara Loncarevic, Stasya Sharapova, and Marit Kreugel won outright championships in their respective singles brackets, while Sara Bjork and Samantha Muller were named co-champions in flight seven singles, and the teams of Marit Kreugel/Sara Loncarevic and Samantha Muller/Sara Bjork were named co-champions of the flight three doubles bracket.

"Going 20-6 overall in our home tournament to finish the fall season feels great. We set a goal to peak at this tournament, and winning five out of seven singles championships shows that we were able to accomplish that," said MSU head coach Jorge Caetano.

"Our team is still growing, and I am very pleased with the results and with the way we played, dominating the matches. Out of the six matches we lost, we had match points in four of them, so we know we have to keep working to fix that because those little details will make all the difference in the spring."

Murray State's weekend matches, which concluded a four-tournament fall season, pointed towards a tremendous amount of overall growth and improvement within this year's team as they look forward to the spring.

Speaking on the fall season as a whole, Caetano said, "We had a very successful fall, and it was great to see the upperclassmen stepping up and playing great tennis. Also, I couldn't be prouder and happier of the way the freshmen competed in their first semester as Racers. They won a lot of matches for us, and showed great potential to improve even more."

"We had some very successful results in both doubles and singles, but they mostly came in different tournaments, so our goal now is to put everything together and keep working on getting faster and stronger so we can start the spring season stronger than ever," concluded Caetano.
