Racers Show Toughness In Win Over Bradley
3/1/2019 10:10:00 PM | Women's Tennis
The Murray State women's tennis squad posted a 5-2 win over the Bradley Braves at the Kenlake Tennis Center in Aurora, Kentucky.
The all-important doubles point went to the Racers when they won the second match by a 6-1 score from Jeanne Masson and Claire Chang. That led the MSU taking the third match 6-2 by the duo of Amina Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic.
Hadzic finished off the Racer win with a 6-2, 7-5 victory from Hadzic at No. 5 singles and win by the same score from Masson at No. 6 singles.
According to MSU coach Jorge Caetano, it was a day for toughness to be displayed by his team. Coming off a loss last week, the Racers found themselves in a high-level match.
"It was a great college match and great to be part of it," Caetano said. "Both teams were competing and pushing each other in every way so it feels great to come out on top against a very well coached team that is always in the top in the Missouri Valley Conference. Bradley really challenged us mentally and physically so I am sure this win will give us confidence moving forward with our season".
Chang won her match in straight sets and Stasya Sharapova outlasted her opponent in three sets to give the Racers four wins in singles play.
"Claire played one of her best matches of the season from start to finish," Caetano said. "When the match was tied at 2-2, I had plenty of confidence in our seniors to get the job done and this was exactly what they did. Amina and Jeanne were very clutch for us in the big moments. It was great to see the way they handled the pressure and were still able to close out those matches. Stasya had a very tough battle and saved three match points before getting the win so I am super proud that her fight and resilience to never give up."
The Racers are now 4-4 and host Missouri State Saturday.
