Racers Begin Outdoor Season With Win At Southern Indiana

After a long layoff between the indoor season to the outdoor, the Murray State women's tennis team posted a 7-0 win Saturday at Southern Indiana at the USI Tennis Courts in Evansville.

"We did an amazing job today in all the courts," said MSU head coach Jorge Caetano. "They played with a lot of energy and confidence and that translated to the scoreboard as we were able to control the match from start to finish. We've been talking a lot about staying focused in the moment throughout the whole match and that was exactly what we did today."

The Racers won the doubles point when Stasya Sharapova and Anja Loncarevic won 6-0 and Amina Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic won 6-0.

In singles play, Chang started the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win from the No. 1 slot and MSU ran off another five wins in which the Racers didn't drop a set.

The Racers now hit the road for a pair of matches in Mobile, Alabama. The Racers take on Louisiana Tech Monday and Central Arkansas on Tuesday.

"I am excited to see what our team will be able to do against two strong teams in our spring break trip," Caetano said. "We are adapting to playing outdoor tennis again and we need to play tough matches that will push us and get us ready for OVC play. We have to make adjustments in the way we play doubles outdoors and there is no better way of doing it than testing it in competition so I am really looking forward to that."
