Loncarevic Victories Not Enough to Propel Racers Past Bears

Murray State women's tennis met the Bears of Central Arkansas in their second match in as many days on Tuesday afternoon. Despite winning the doubles point, the Racers came up short in their second competition of the road trip, falling 4-3 in Mobile, Alabama.

Anja Loncarevic and Stasya Sharapova combined with Amina Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic to secure doubles, as Murray State earned the point for the second time during their stint in Mobile.

In singles, the Racers saw marvelous performances from Anja Loncarevic (6-3, 6-1) and Sara Loncarevic (6-1, 7-6¹) whose victories also gave Murray State a pair of points on the afternoon.

"Sara has been very consistent for us all year, and it was no different in these last few matches. She went 6-0 in both singles and doubles the last three matches, so I couldn't be happier with the way she is playing," said head coach Jorge Caetano.

"Anja also did a fantastic job, especially in today's match, and this is exactly what we needed from her going into conference play this coming weekend."

The Racers (6-6) open Oho Valley Conference competition against Tennessee State on Friday in Nashville, Tennessee.

"This trip was very important for us because I feel like we are finally very close to playing our best tennis outdoors. Everyone did a great job in fighting for every point and trying to find solutions when things were not quite going our way, and that's very encouraging," added Caetano.
