Racers Athletics Mourns The Loss Of Frank Fazi

The Murray State athletic department is saddened to learn of the passing of longtime videographer and a 2012 inductee into the MSU Hall of Distinction, Frank Fazi.
For the better part of a century, Fazi was involved with Racer athletics in some form or fashion. Fazi began his long-time association with Murray State as a student-athlete for track, finishing second in the mile run at the 1952 OVC Championship. Perhaps, though, Fazi is best known for his time behind the camera, serving as the videographer for Murray State baseball and basketball, but primarily working with the football team.
A veteran of the United States Army and the Korean War, after his military service, Fazi spent time in both Murray and Louisville, before finally returning to "the finest place we know" in 1965 and serving the athletic department until shortly before his death. Fazi is survived by his son, Christopher, his daughter Dina, grandsons, great-grandsons, nieces and nephews, friends and his sister, Pauline.
"The hearts and thoughts of the Racer family are with the Fazis at this difficult time," said Director of Athletics Kevin Saal. "Frank was a special part of both the Murray and Racer communities, who will truly be missed. On behalf of Murray State athletics, we are grateful to have known Frank and also for his many years of service. Frank and his family will always be an important and special part of the Racer tradition."
Services will be held at 11 a.m. On Thursday, march 14, 2019, at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray, with burial following at the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 13 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., also at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of unrestricted funds donations to the Murray State Athletic Department.
Former Coaches Remember Fazi
"I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Frank. He always brought such a joy to the office when he was around. Even when it was cold or raining outside that smile was always on his face. Although I am saddened - I am also joyful that he is in a better place. My prayers go out to his family."
- Mitch Stewart (Head Coach, 2015-Pr.)
"Frank was a great friend of the program. He will be missed by many. I am very thankful for his hard work while I was at Murray State."
- Chris Hatcher (Head Coach, 2010-14)
"I am terribly saddened by the passing of Frank Fazi. I had known Frank since 1986 and enjoyed him greatly.  Frank was a fine gentleman and a true Racer. Sometimes in college athletics we get caught up in the players and coaches and fail to recognize those who truly add value to an athletic department and make things work. Frank was indeed one of those guys."
- Denver Johnson (Head Coach, 1997-99)Â
