Racers Set to Compete for OVC Title in Regular Season Finale

The Racers will host Austin Peay in their final match of the regular season at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon. The match, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved up to Wednesday to avoid inclement weather that is expected to roll through the area on the weekend. The Racers, who enter the contest with a 6-1 record against Ohio Valley Conference opponents, will compete for the OVC regular season title in the Heritage Bank Battle of the Border match against the Governors at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The afternoon will also serve as Senior Day for Murray State women's tennis, as the Racers will celebrate their senior student-athletes prior to the start of the match.

The Racers enter Wednesday as winners of four-straight matches after winning two on the road this past weekend. Beginning with a 5-2 victory over the Cougars of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Murray State capped a perfect weekend with a convincing 6-1 triumph over Eastern Illinois.
In doubles play, the Racers saw two teams finish with a perfect weekend. The duo of Claire Chang and Jeanne Masson prevailed in both doubles competitions, while the team of Amina Hadzic and Sara Loncarevic also turned in an unblemished 2-0 record over the pair of matches.

In singles, Austin Peay is led by twin sisters Claudia Yanes Garcia and Lidia Yanes Garcia, who have combined for a 33-2 record in dual matches this season. Lidia, the reigning three-time OVC Player of the Year is 17-1 overall, and carries a 6-0 record in the Ohio Valley Conference. The sisters, who also have seen success in doubles, have turned in a 12-4 overall record that includes a 6-0 OVC record as doubles partners in dual matches this season.
