Racers Can't Overcome Early Deficit at SIUE

The Murray State baseball team made a bid for their biggest comeback of the season but ultimately fell short as SIU Edwardsville knocked off MSU, 11-6, Thursday evening in Illinois.
The Racers fall to 22-27 overall and 15-13 in the OVC while the Cougars improve to 18-31 and 10-18 in conference play to keep them alive for the OVC tournament next week.
Jaron Robinson had three hits in the game to bring his career total to 196 while Sean Darmafall added three hits of his own. Robinson and Jordan Cozart had two RBI each to lead the Racers.
There was also a little bit of history in this game as Ryan Perkins and and his twin brother Justin on SIUE each homered in the contest.
SIUE jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning as Justin hit his first home run of the game, a two-run shot over Ryan's head in left.
The Cougars added a couple more runs in the second, third, and fifth to extend their lead to 9-0 after five innings.
Ryan matched his brother in the sixth as he got the Racers on the board with a solo home run before three straight singles by Jordan Cozart, Jaron Robinson, and Sean Darmafall tacked on a second run in the inning to cut the MSU deficit to 9-2.
In the seventh, the Racers added four runs to make it a three-run game. With the bases loaded, Cozart hit a two-run single before Robinson cleared the bases with a two-run double.
SIUE got two runs back in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead back to five runs at 11-6, which turned out to be the final score.
The two teams will continue their series tomorrow with game two scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
