Racers Fall to Belmont in OVC Tournament Opener

The Murray State baseball team opened up the 2019 OVC Tournament, Wednesday morning against Belmont, falling
to the Bruins, 8-1.
The Racers took a 1-0 lead in the game, but Belmont responded with eight unanswered run to cruise to a victory.
In this double elimination bracket, Murray State will play at least one more game. If either UT Martin or Eastern Kentucky win their games today, the Racers will play tonight at about 7:30. If neither team wins, MSU will wait until tomorrow night at 7 p.m. where they will face either the Skyhawks or Colonels.
About 16 hours after being named to the OVC All-Freshman team, Shane Burns made the start for the Racers this morning. He threw three scoreless to begin the game, but the Bruins pushed him around in the fourth for three runs. Belmont then added four runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth off the Racer bullpen.
The only run for the Racers came in the third inning when Bryan Chilton and Jordan Holly singled to set up first and third for Ryan Perkins, who bounced into a double play to bring Chilton home.
Brock Anderson and Jordan Cozart added the only other two hits in the game for the Races while Jaron Robinson reached base three times, all on walks.
