Racers' Season Comes to an End Against Morehead State

The 2019 season officially came to a close for the Murray State baseball team, Thursday night, as Morehead State sent the Racers home with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 2-1 in an OVC Tournament elimination game.

Senior Jaron Robinson hit a solo home run in his last game for the Racers to provide the only run of the game for Murray State. Jake Slunder, Brock Anderson, and Sean Darmafall each provided a hit as well.

Gray Dorsey was spectacular on the mound against one of the OVC's best offenses, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just one run while striking out a career-high seven batters.

The first three innings were uneventful but in the fourth, Robinson gave the Racers a 1-0 lead as he hit a long home run to dead-center field, his fifth of the season.

The Eagles threatened in the fifth as they had a runner on third with two outs but was able to strike out All-OVC player Jake Hammon looking to end the inning.

Morehead State tied the game in the seventh with a run. A single off the glove of a leaping Jordan Holly began the inning before a ground-rule double set up second and third with one out. The Eagles then got the tying run in with a groundout to second.

After both teams went down easily in the eighth, the Racers could not muster anything up in the ninth either.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Eagles got the first guy on with a walk, but he was erased as the next batter struck out and was called for batter's interference when Bryan Chilton threw down to second to try to catch the runner stealing.

However, it did not end up mattering as on the next pitch, Ryan Lane sent a screaming line drive to center that kept on carrying, eventually landing over the fence to give the Eagles the win.

The Racers finish the season with a 24-30 overall record. Their 16 wins in OVC play was also the most in Murray State history.
