Anthony Smith Cleared By NCAA For A Fifth Season

Murray State's Anthony Smith received a good bit of news this week when the NCAA informed the Racer men's basketball program that he was cleared to participate for a fifth season of competition in the 2019-20 season.

Smith, out of Suitland, Maryland, was all set to be a big part of the Racers 2018-19 season when he suffered a broken right ankle during workouts in early December. He had started for the first five games and was scoring 7.6 points per game to go with 5.0 rebounds. Smith hit 54 percent from the field and was 70 percent from the free throw line. In the Racers' opening night win over Wright State, Smith pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. He also blocked three shots in MSU's game at Alabama.

It was a terrible thing to happen to a senior, but Smith showed tremendous leadership in the rest of the Racers' amazing 28-5 season that saw the team win the OVC regular season championship, the OVC Tournament title and make its 17^th NCAA Tournament appearance.

Smith will be with his teammates when the Racers take part in a three-game exhibition tour in the Bahamas in early August.
