The Racers will conclude the non-conference portion of their 2019 schedule with a pair of matches on the docket for the weekend. The Racers will remain at home for game one, as they welcome the Red Wolves of Arkansas State to Cutchin Field on Friday, before they head for Springfield, Missouri to take on Missouri State on Sunday afternoon. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Last Time Out:
Despite a flurry of goals, the Racers came up just short against SEC opponent Ole Miss in their last time out – falling 5-4 to the Rebels at Cutchin Field last Sunday. Miyah Watford led the way with her second brace of the season while also recording an assist, while Emma Heise and Abby Jones also earned a place on the score sheet in front of a plethora of Racer faithful on a gorgeous afternoon in Murray. MSU's electric offense mustered 15 shots on the day.
Entering the Weekend:
While the Racers enter the weekend at 2-4 overall, Murray State has assembled a string of impressive performances to open the 2019 campaign. While the most notable are victories against Indiana and Samford, a grueling non-conference schedule has dealt three one-goal defeats, two of them coming against Power 5 opponents, while the ferocious Racer offense is averaging 2.17 goals per game and has scored in every match.
Senior Miyah Watford leads the Racers with 13 points on a team-high six goals and an assist, while Rebecca Kubin has tallied two goals and a pair of assists of her own through six matches in 2019.
Scouting Arkansas State:
The Red Wolves enter Friday's match at 3-2 overall after they dropped a 1-0 contest to Texas Tech on the road in their last outing. Arkansas State was selected to finish sixth in this year's Sun Belt preseason poll after they finished with an 8-7-3 overall record and a 5-5 mark against conference opponents in 2018. The Red Wolves return their two leading scorers from a year ago in Hailey Furio and 2018 All-Sun Belt selection Sarah Sodoma who each netted five goals last season.
Scouting Missouri State:
Missouri State enters the weekend on a four-match unbeaten streak after they earned a 1-0 overtime victory on the road over SIUE in their last outing on Sunday afternoon. At 3-1-1 overall, the Bears have not lost a match since their season opener that saw them fall to Western Illinois 2-1 on the road in Macomb, Illinois. Missouri State was voted 4th in the Preseason Missouri Valley Conference poll after they finished 8-9-2 overall with a 2-3-2 mark against conference opponents a year ago. Among the eight starters returning to the roster in 2019 is goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell and 2018 All-Missouri Valley 1st Team selection Brittney Robinson.
All-Time Series:
Friday will mark the 13th all-time meeting between Murray State and Arkansas State, with the Red Wolves currently holding the series with a 6-5-1 record. The most recent meeting came in 2016, where the two sides played to a 1-1 draw at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky.
As for Missouri State, the two sides will clash for the fourth time on Sunday afternoon, with the Bears holding a 2-1 advantage over the Racers in the all-time series. The Racers will look to even that overall series after the Bears earned victories in the last two encounters, including the most recent – a 4-0 game in Murray during the 2007 season.

A scorching 94 degrees is expected at kickoff on Friday in Murray as the Racers take on the Red Wolves. A slight breeze at around five miles per hour to the south is expected. Chance of rain: 10%
