Murray State soccer is excited to announce its regular season schedule for the 2020-21 season, as released by head coach Matt Lodge on Wednesday. The Racers will now play a 10-game conference-only schedule in the spring of 2021 after no matches were played during the fall of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season opener is slated for March 2nd on the road at Morehead State, while the Racers' first home match at Cutchin Field is set for March 5th when Murray State will play host to Eastern Kentucky.Â
 Â
"It has been a long twelve months not playing a competitive game, but we are excited we now have a date and schedule to work towards. We will get six weeks in the spring to prepare for a tough conference slate. All teams have been kept off the field for so long that they will be up for every game, so we can't take any match lightly," said Lodge.
Â
After the two aforementioned matches, the Racers will travel to UT Martin (3/9) for a clash with the Skyhawks before returning to Cutchin Field for a two-game homestand that features a meeting with Belmont (3/12) and this year's edition of the Battle of the Border rivalry match against Austin Peay on March 16th.
Â
A road match against Jacksonville State (3/19) and a home contest with Tennessee Tech (3/23) will precede the Racers' longest road trip of the season when they trek to SIUE (3/26) and Southeast Missouri (4/2).
Â
The Racers will wrap up the regular season on April 6th at home against Eastern Illinois, while details on the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament are set to be announced at a later date.
Â
"We have spent this fall really working on our system and getting all of our players up to the speed of play we want to play at all times. I've really enjoyed having this time to work on so many aspects of our game, have them all in the weight room, on the field, and integrate our 10 newcomers. The players have done a fantastic job this fall staying incredibly disciplined and working hard every day. The intensity and competitive nature of training sessions have been fun to be a part of. We are ready to play someone other than ourselves. We can't wait," concluded Lodge.
