Murray State women's tennis freshman Marit Kreugel has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, as released by the OVC on Wednesday.
Â
Kreugel earned victories in all matches last week to remain unbeaten in 2020. The Vleuten, Netherlands native opened with a 7-6 victory with teammate Sara Bjork in #3 doubles competition, before earning a 6-3, 6-0 victory at #5 singles in Murray State's 5-2 triumph over Missouri State on Friday. Building on that momentum, the freshman teamed with Bjork to capture another 7-6 victory at #3 doubles, while Kreugel also prevailed once more with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #5 singles in Saturday's contest against the Coyotes of South Dakota. After last week's performances, Kreugel improves to a combined 12-0, posting 6-0 records in both doubles and singles matches since beginning the 2020 campaign.
Â
Kreugel, who wins the award for the first time in her career, becomes the Murray State player to win the weekly honor since Claire Chang was earned the recognition on March 20, 2019.
Â
The Racers return to action this week when they host three matches at the Kenlake Tennis Center, beginning with a Thursday meeting with Central Arkansas.
