Racers Fall at Eastern Illinois
2/20/2020 8:38:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The Murray State women's basketball team just couldn't get its shots to fall Thursday night at Eastern Illinois and fell to the Panthers, 66-46 at the Lantz Arena in Charleston.
Despite the loss, the Racers did not lose their hold on the eighth and final spot in next month's OVC tournament, as both Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State also suffered losses Thursday.
Alexis Burpo got off to a hot start, ending the first quarter with 11 points to give her team a 14-8 lead at the end of one. However, Panthers fired back in the second quarter and outscored the Racers 24-9 in the second stanza to end the first half with a 32-23 lead.
The Racers went on a 7-0 run with a minute left in the third quarter but it wasn't enough, as the Panthers outscored Murray State, 20-11 in the fourth to the Racers away.
Alexis Burpo led Murray State with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and sixth on the season, while Laci Hawthorne also notched her sixth double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Macie Gibson was 2-for-5 from 3-point range in the game to end the night with 13 points.
On Saturday, the Racers will travel to Edwardsville to take on SIUE in their final road game of the regular-season. Tip-off from the Vadalabene Center is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
