In addition to the above video, check out below as we take off the timer and give "Racer Dave" three more questions in a GoRacers.com exclusive, "2-Minute Drill: Overtime"
Overtime With Dave Winder
1. What's one thing you wish you had known about your job when you started that you know now?
I wish I had known how much time-management and organizing and planning was going to be part of the job, probably the most important part of the job. I have had to learn a lot in that area, communication, managing, planning. I feel like I am much better today than I was even three of four years ago. In our job, because in our job, we have a lot of balls in the air as we juggle, especially in the fall and in the spring, that organizing, planning and time management becomes very important to what we do. I wish I had known that more when I started, but I'm really glad that I've learned it as I've gone along, as I go into my 20th year.
2. What's your fist memory of sports?
I would say the backyard whiffle ball game with my younger brother, Mark and all the guys that were in the neighborhood. That's probably my earliest memory. About that time also, in my hometown of Jackson, Missouri, the place to be in the fall on a Sunday afternoon was in the city park, because there everyone gathered to play touch football on Sunday afternoons. There in the city park, you could find all kinds of age groups that were playing football and that was always fun. So those are the first things I remember.
3. What is a bucket list sporting event for you?
I would say being able to go to a St. Louis Cardinals World Series game. I've only been to one playoff game with the Cardinals and it was one of the most unbelievable experiences I've ever had, because it was so much different than a regular-season game. It was the 2000 playoffs, game two of the NLDS, the Braves and Cardinals at Busch on a Thursday afternoon. My wife and I fought the crowd to get in and had just sat down when Will Clark took Tom Glavine deep and it was the loudest reaction I had ever heard at a sporting event. I'm a big St. Louis Cardinals fan and anytime I get to go to a game in St. Louis is huge, because I don't get to go to a lot of them. So if I could get to go to a Cardinals' World Series game one of these days, that would be the ultimate bucket list sporting event for me.
