Racers Fall to Governors in Tight Five Set Battle

Murray State dropped its fifth straight game, falling in five sets to Austin Peay on Wednesday night
The Murray State Racers (8-9, 2-5 OVC) were edged by the Austin Peay Governors (11-8, 6-1 OVC) in five sets (25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 25-23, 8-15) Wednesday night in Clarksville, Tenn. to wrap up their five-game road swing.
Murray State opened the match with a 25-22 set victory but fell in the next two to give Austin Peay a 2-1 advantage. The Racers fought back in the fourth set using an 8-0 run to take the lead and force a deciding fifth set.
Despite five Racers finishing with double-digit kills, Murray State stumbled in the fifth set to drop its fifth game in a row.
Freshmen Brooke Lynn Watts finished with 17 kills and Alexa Harris had 13 kills on a .333 attack % on the outside with sophomore Jayla Holcombe tallied 14 kills from the right side.
Out of the middle, Kolby McClelland had 12 kills on a .345 attack percentage followed by Darci Metzger with 11 kills on a .450 attack %, including six kills in the fourth set alone.
Setter Bailey DeMier dished out a season-high 55 assists, picking up her sixth double-double, adding 16 digs.
Libero Becca Fernandez led all players defensively, collecting 20 digs in the back court.
Murray State returns home to Racer Arena hosting Tennessee Tech this weekend, Friday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
