Dani Wright, Jessica Stein and Jorge Ruiz capture top-ten finishes at the Golden Eagle Invitational
The Murray State Racers women's cross country team placed two runners in the top-10 Friday at the Golden Eagle Invitational as they raced their way to a third-place finish overall. On the men's side, the Racers finished fifth at the Golden Eagle Invitational.
Â
Dani Wright and Jessica Stein led the Racers on the day as the duo finished fourth and tenth with times of 19:00.0 and 19:37.4, respectively.
Â
It is Wright's third top-four finish this season after coming in third at UT Martin's Soybean Invitational and second at the North Alabama Invitational.
Â
In her collegiate debut, Ruth Kimutai crossed the finish line in 19:49.8 to place 15th. Hope Ware and Emma Creviston rounded out the Murray State top-five with placements of 20th and 24th. Ware finished the 5K in 20:04.4, with Creviston closing in 20:12.4.
Â
Amirr Evans also made her collegiate debut, finishing 27th with a time of 20:20.6.
Â
"It was great to see some new faces as Amirr and Ruth competed for the first time. Mixing their debut with the consistency of the rest of the group we are in a good spot with conference only two weeks away. All our goals are still in front of us and we are excited to try and achieve them," said Head Coach Adam Kiesler.
Â
Jorge Ruiz led the men's squad Friday as he finished eighth overall. As a team, the Racers placed fifth in the men's 8K.
Â
Jordan Higgins finished 18th for the men, crossing the line in 26:57.0, while Nathan Quinn was 26th in a time of 27:56.5. Ryan Dent ran a 28:10.1 followed closely by Benjamin Hall's 28:14.6 to place 31st and 33rd, respectively, and round out the top-five group for the men.
Â
"In cross county you always look to help and pick up your teammates. Today Jordan did a great job of competing knowing that his teammate wasn't going to finish the race. Throughout the season we have stressed the importance of our 4-7 runner and now that we have a whole regular season under our belt we look forward to them stepping up in two weeks," said Kiesler.
Â
Murray State will contest the OVC Cross Country Championships in two weeks (Oct. 30), hosted by Tennessee State at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
