Early Scoring Burst By Burns Leads Racers Past Campbellsville

The Murray State Racers locked down the Tigers in winning for a fourth-straight time at home in the CFSB Center
The Murray State Racers pushed their start to the 2021-22 season to 6-1 with a 98-61 victory over the Campbellsville Tigers at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

Four Racers reached double-figure scoring led by Tevin Brown with 20, while DJ Burns scored a MSU career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Justice Hill scored 15 points and dished out eight assists and Trae Hannibal posted 10 points with five assists.

At the 15:44 mark of the first half, the Racers had hit 5-of-8 from the field for a 10-7 lead and then produced an 18-7 run for a 28-14 lead at 9:41, with Burns scoring half of MSU's points in the early going. The Racers' full court press paid big dividends and a 17-3 run and eventually a 49-29 halftime lead.

MSU's largest lead came with 11:43 remaining at 80-39.

The Racers are back on the floor (Dec. 4) to for Coach Cal Luther day when they host old Ohio Valley Conference rival Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m.

The Murray State men's basketball program has set Dec. 4 as Coach Cal Luther Day when the Racers host Middle Tennessee at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

The day will be a time to honor the memory of the great Racer coach who passed away in 2021 and is interminably linked as one of the builders of the Murray State program and the greatest men's basketball history in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Ticket purchases can be made by visiting GoRacers.com or by calling the arena ticket office at (270) 809-3000. Tip off time for the Racers and Blue Raiders is 7 p.m.

Coach Luther is the first of two special days at Racer Basketball in which a legend will be honored. Coach Ron Greene Day at the CFSB Center is set for Jan. 22 when Murray State hosts UT Martin.

Racer Nation lost two of its greats in 2021 when Luther passed on May 8 after Greene on March 31.

Murray State Spirit Night With Memphis Grizzlies
return to Memphis for another Murray State Spirit Night at the Grizzlies game Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. when the Grizzlies and former Racer and NBA all-star, Ja Morant, host the Houston Rockets at the FedExForum. A pre-game party will be held at the brand-new location of Ghost River Brewing Co. on Beale Street, directly across from FedExForum, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Free food (while it lasts), loads of swag and a cash bar will be provided. To add a bit of sparkle to the celebration, the annual Memphis Holiday Parade will also take place on Beale Street at 3 p.m. and Ghost River Brewing Co. will be the perfect viewing location.

Also that weekend at the FedExForum, the Murray State Racer Men's Basketball team will take on the University of Memphis Tigers Friday, Dec. 10. Tickets can be purchased through the University of Memphis box office.

Racers Selected For Two Home Games On ESPNU
The Murray State men's basketball is hosting a pair of televised home games on ESPNU as announced by the Ohio Valley Conference for the 2021-22 season. The Racers will appear on ESPNU (Feb. 17) when they host the Austin Peay Governors at the CFSB Center in a 6 p.m. tip. The second game happens at home (Feb. 24) against the Belmont Bruins in a tip off of 8 p.m. Both of the TV games for the Racers come on Thursday nights. The OVC schedule has a total of nine total men's basketball televised games (six regular season contests and three OVC Tournament games) to be aired by one of the ESPN networks during the 2021-22 season. This includes three nights of coverage at the OVC Tournament (March 4-5) at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

Mini-Ticket Plans Available
Fans can purchase season tickets and the Navy & Gold Mini ticket plans at Racer Mania. The mini plans are a great way for Racer Nation to enjoy Murray State games with general admission tickets. Each mini plan is $50 for one general admission ticket to five games. All of the games offered in the ticket plans are doubleheaders except for the stand-alone men's game vs Middle Tennessee (Dec. 4). Call the ticket office at (270) 809-3000 to purchase a ticket plan.

- KJ Williams is making a run at becoming the ninth Racer to have 1,000 career points and 700 rebounds. Through 97 games in his Murray State career, Williams has 1,180 points and 649 rebounds.
- Brown made three 3-point baskets today and now has 271 in his career as he chases the all-time Murray State record held by Isaiah Canaan (304 from 2009-13) and the OVC by Austin Peay's Joe Sibbitt (309 from 1994-98).
- This was the seventh all-time meeting with Campbellsville for the Racers who have won all seven.
- Justice Hill and Trae Hannibal combined for 13 assists and zero turnovers.
- The Racers had 16 assists on eight turnovers.
- MSU has won their last four games at home in the CFSB Center.
- The Racers meet Middle Tennessee Saturday at home in their 144th all-time meeting.
- The two tangled in the OVC from 1953-2000 where the Racers won 70 of 97 games.
