The Racers will host the Second Annual Murray State Open at Miller Memorial Golf Course
The Murray State men's and women's cross country teams are set to host the 2021 Murray State Open Friday afternoon at Miller Memorial Golf Course.
Â
"We are looking forward to racing at home tomorrow," said Coach Jordan Wallace. "The course is the true definition of cross country - muddy and hilly! It is a great opportunity for the team to execute different racing strategies and practice being competitive with placing rather than focusing on their personal pace."Â
Â
RACE ASSIGNMENTS:Â Including the Racers, there will be seven teams competing in the race, Campbellsville, Evansville, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, North Alabama and SUI-Edwardsville. The women will run a 5K at 2 p.m. while the men's 8K will take place at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Â
LAST TIME OUT:Â Murray State opened the 2020-21 campaign two weeks ago at the Belmont Opener. The event marked the first competition for the Racer cross country programs in more than 435 days.
Â
Junior Dani Wright led the Murray State women for the first time in her career, clocking at 18:50.3 on the 5K course, recording a new personal-best for herself. Sophomores Jessica Stein and Kristin Dent both set personal records. Â
Â
Senior Caleb Kawasaki once again led the Racer men. Sophomores Ryan Dent and Benjamin Hall both ran new personal records in the 8K.
Â
UP NEXT:Â Following a two-week break from competition, the Racers will travel to Cookeville, Tennessee, to wrap up the regular season at Tennessee Tech with the meet scheduled for Friday, February 19.
