Racers Drop One Spot In Round Two At Bama Beach Bash

The Murray State Racers carded a 309 Saturday, one shot better than the 310 in round one, but still dropped one spot in the standings to the seventh at the Bama Beach Bash at Gulf Shores Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

The Racers' rounds of 310-309=619 was three shots better than eighth place North Dakota at 621 and seven shots from sixth place Texas State at 612. Louisiana Monroe was the leader at 591, chased by South Alabama (594), Central Arkansas (599) and Little Rock 605).

MSU senior Raeshya Surendran began the second round as the medalist leader after a first round 72, but a second round 78 caused her to drop to 12th place at 150. Other MSU scores and standings included Ana Garcia Picchi in 18th place on scores of 76-76=152 and Sarah Forsythe in 32nd place on rounds of 79-75=154. Payton Carter had scores of 83-80-163 and was in 65th place, while Briana McMinn was in 77th place on scores of 84-82=166.

MSU's Emmie Eriksson is playing the event as a solo player and was in 18th place overall and second among 15 individuals in the field on scores of 77-75=152. Other MSU individuals included Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria with a spot in 43rd place on scores of 81-78=159 and Charli Jo Doss in 86th place on scores of 91-83=174.

Teresa Toscano of South Dakota State is the medalist leader with scores of 73-69=142, three shots ahead of four players at 145.

About Murray State Women's Golf
The Racers' program is in its 28th season overall, with the founder of the program, Coach Velvet Milkman guiding the way as the only coach the Racers have ever had. She started the Murray State program in the 1993-94 school year and has coached championship-level student-athletes that have produced 12 OVC championships, the most of any coach at Murray State. Also serving for many years as the Murray State Senior Woman Administrator, Milkman did MSU Athletics a great service by serving as Interim Athletics Director from July 2018 through February 2019. Milkman is involved at the NCAA level shaping women's golf on a national scale. She served a four-year term (2009-12) on the NCAA Women's Golf Committee including two years as chair.
