Racers Seventh At Bama Beach Bash - Picchi Surges To Top-10

Murray State’s Ana Garcia Picchi Improved 10 spots to and eighth place finish after a final round 73
The Murray State Racers performed well in a solid field to come home with a seventh place finish at the Bama Beach Bash at Gulf Shores Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

The Racers got better each day and carded scores of 310-309-308=927 to place seventh in the field of 15 teams. Â South Alabama was the winner at 891, with Texas State (900), Louisiana Monroe (900), Little Rock (904) and Central Arkansas (904) made up the top-5.

MSU's Ana Garcia Picchi scored her second top-10 finish of her young MSU career that is only 10 events old. She placed eighth on scores of 76-76-73=225, while Raeshya Surendran placed 32nd on scores of 72-78-83=233. Sara Forsythe had rounds of 79-75-80=234 and it was a 46th place showing for Payton Carter on scores of 83-80-76=239. Briana McMinn placed 70th after scores of 84-82-79=245.

There were 15 individual players in the event and MSU's Emmie Eriksson posted scores of 77-75=81-233 to place 32nd overall and second among the solo players. Other MSU individuals included Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria in 46th place on rounds of 81-78-80=239 and Charli Jo Doss in 85th place on scores of 91-83-80=254.

Teresa Toscano of South Dakota State won the medalist title on scores of 73-69-71=213 with a four shot win over ULM's Chantal Dueringer at 317.

The Racers get back on the course next (March 29-30) at the Chattanooga Invitational, played at Black Creek Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

About Murray State Women's Golf
The Racers' program is in its 28th season overall, with the founder of the program, Coach Velvet Milkman guiding the way as the only coach the Racers have ever had. She started the Murray State program in the 1993-94 school year and has coached championship-level student-athletes that have produced 12 OVC championships, the most of any coach at Murray State. Also serving for many years as the Murray State Senior Woman Administrator, Milkman did MSU Athletics a great service by serving as Interim Athletics Director from July 2018 through February 2019. Milkman is involved at the NCAA level shaping women's golf on a national scale. She served a four-year term (2009-12) on the NCAA Women's Golf Committee including two years as chair.
