Racers Wrap Up Chattanooga Classic Appearance

The Murray State women's golf team began play in one of the strongest fields they will see this season outside of an NCAA regional when they competed in the first 36 holes of the Chattanooga Classic at Black Creek Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Racers carded team scores of 317-308=625 in the first day of the 54-hole event and stood in 10^th place in the field of 13 teams. Payton Carter and Ana Garcia Picchi led MSU as they shared 27^th place in the field of 71 players. Carter had rounds of 80-74=154 and Picchi 79-75=154. Raeysha Surendran was in 42^nd place after scores of 78-79=157 and Sarah Forsythe had a spot in 59^th place on rounds of 83-80=163. Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria was in 65^th position after scores of 80-87=167.

Murray State's Emmie Eriksson is playing the event as a solo player and was in 64^th place on scores of 87-78=165.

East Tennessee had the lead at 590, while Iowa (594), host Chattanooga (595), James Madison (596) and Georgia Southern (604) rounded out the top-5.

ETSU's Tereza Melecka was the medalist leader on scores of 68-72=140, one shot ahead of UTC's Esme Hamilton (72-69=141).

The event will conclude Tuesday with the final 18 holes of play.

The Black Creek GC is playing to a par of 72 and length of 6,159 yards.

About Murray State Women's Golf
The Racers' program is in its 28th season overall, with the founder of the program, Coach Velvet Milkman guiding the way as the only coach the Racers have ever had. She started the Murray State program in the 1993-94 school year and has coached championship-level student-athletes that have produced 12 OVC championships, the most of any coach at Murray State. Also serving for many years as the Murray State Senior Woman Administrator, Milkman did MSU Athletics a great service by serving as Interim Athletics Director from July 2018 through February 2019. Milkman is involved at the NCAA level shaping women's golf on a national scale. She served a four-year term (2009-12) on the NCAA Women's Golf Committee including two years as chair.
