MSU drops its final match of the regular season 6-1 on the road to Austin Peay
Murray State women's tennis traveled to Austin Peay for an afternoon meeting with the Goevernors on Friday in its final regular-season contest of 2021. The Racers struggled to find a rhythm, falling to APSU 6-1 in a Battle of the Border rivalry match in Clarksville, Tennessee.
The lone Racer victory of the day came from Sara Loncarevic, who defeated Austin Peay's Fabienne Schmidt (6-2, 6-3) in straight sets at No. 1 singles.
Sarah Bureau (6-2, 2-6, 3-6) and Gabrielle Geolier (6-3, 0-6, 1-6) both took their opponents to three sets at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions respectively, but came up short in the end. For Geolier, the defeat marks her first conference singles loss of the season as she falls to 6-1 against OVC opponents.
The Racers finish the regular season at 8-9 overall with a 4-3 record in the OVC that earns them the #3 seed at next week's OVC Tournament - setting up a rematch with second-seed Austin Peay in the tournament semifinals due to a reduced four-team field for 2021. The match is slated for Saturday, April 24th at 2:00 p.m. from the Wesselman Tennis Center in Evansville, Indiana.
