The Racers’ fabulous run of three-straight OVC championships ends at Hampton Cove
The Murray State Racers and senior Raeshya Surendran had to settle for less than they had hoped in Tuesday's final round of the Ohio Valley Conference women's golf championship at Hampton Cove Golf Club in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
The Racers placed fourth on rounds of 303-305-299=907, behind champion Jacksonville State (861), second place Eastern Kentucky (885) and third place Belmont (902). After the Racers, the rest of the field included Morehead State (922), Austin Peay (924), Tennessee Tech (935) and Eastern Illinois (1017).
Surendran began the final 18 holes three shots off the lead and in third place. A slow start led to a final round 78 that saw her slip to a seventh-place finish in her final event as a Racer. Surendran's score line for the week on the Highlands Course was 73-70-78=221. MSU's Ana Garcia Picchi came home with an 11th place showing on scores of 74-77-76=227, while Payton Carter placed 20th on rounds of 79-79-73=231. Sarah Forsythe had rounds of 77-84-72=233 and Briana McMinn finished 31st on scores of 83-79-80=242.
