Murray State will race in four regular season meets, highlighted by the Racer Open
Murray State's head coach of track & field and cross country, Adam Kiesler announced the men's and women's cross country 2020-21 campaign.
After competing in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19, the cross country season returns to the fall for the 2021-22 year.
The Racers will compete in four regular season meets, highlighted by Mizzou's Gans Creek Classic and their home meet, the Racer Open.
"We changed the schedule quite a bit this year to get in a good variety of meets. Each course we compete at has its different challenges which will help in developing racing strategies," said distance coach Jordan Johnston.
Murray State will open their 2021 campaign at fellow Ohio Valley Conference member UT Martin's Soybean Invitational on September 3rd. The following weekend, the Racers compete at the North Alabama Invitational.
For the first time since 2008, Murray State will return to Columbia, Missouri to race in Mizzou's Gans Creek Classic on October 1st.
The Racers conclude their 2021 regular season hosting the Racer Open on Saturday, October 15th at the Miller Memorial Golf Course.
Murray State will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, as Tennessee State is set to host the 2021 OVC Cross Country Championships.
"I think we will have some meets where individuals and/or the team has an opportunity to win and some meets where we are excited to have the opportunity to race against great competition," said Johnston.
Last season, the Racer women tabbed their best conference finish (5th) since 2015 while the men's team placed 9th at the OVC Championships.
