MSU Athletics provides events for female student-athletes so they can grow into leaders and professionals
Murray State Athletics held its fifth Women's Empowerment and Education (WEE) event (Sept. 13) in the Murray Room of the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
Â
The WEE program is part of the larger vision that Murray State Athletics calls the Racer Road. Led by Coach Velvet Milkman, head coach of the MSU women's golf team and assistant women's track & field coach Kelsey Riggins, the goal is to prepare Racer women student-athletes to learn how to have successful lives and careers long after they've played their final game at Murray State.
Â
This WEE gathering centered around developing career goals including networking, interview skills, resumes, attire, self-care, Title IX and Murray State women's athletics history.
Â
"The WEE Program has continued to gain support, not only at Murray State, but within our community," Riggins said. "Since the start of the program in 2019, we've had women from 16 different businesses and organizations in Murray (and beyond), come and speak to our female student-athletes on various topics. We are so thankful for the professionals and their willingness to give their time to help grow other young female leaders. The energy at these events is contagious, and it is great to watch the student-athletes get excited about the opportunities to grow as professionals and leaders. We are already looking forward to our next event in the spring of 2021."
Â
Murray State Athletics wants to thank these local professionals for taking time to meet and visit with Racer student-athletes.
