Murray State Defeated Southeast Missouri 2-1 to Open Their Conference Schedule
In their first OVC game of the season, Murray State Women's Soccer team defeated Southeast Missouri 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at Cutchin Field in Murray, Kentucky. Lauren Payne and Rebecca Kubin would score in the contest for the Racers to give them the victory.
In the 35th minute of the match Payne would net the first goal for the Racers on a deflected corner kick assisted by Morgan Bodker to give the Racers the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Following the break, the Redhawks would even the score at 1-1 in the 47th minute on a goal by Elisabeth Rater.
The Racers would not be denied a victory as Kubin would net the record-tying 13th game winning goal of her career in the 68th minute on an assist from Payne.
"When Kubin is on the field, there's a chance we are going to get a result." Coach Matt Lodge said of his 5th year striker, "She's on everybody's scouting report I would imagine, and I think when she gets the service, she will get her chances."
This victory is the Racers 14th all-time over the Redhawks, bringing the record to 14-12-1.
Murray State will be back in action on Sunday at 1 pm when they travel to Charleston, Illinois to take on Eastern Illinois.
