The Murray State men’s golf team got better and better over the 54-hole event played in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Murray State men's golf team improved every time they took to the RidgePointe Country Club over three rounds on Monday and Tuesday and came home with a fifth-place showing among 11 teams at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The Racers carded a 303 in round one Monday morning, but cut six shots off their afternoon round with a 297. They came home Tuesday with a final round 293. MSU's 893 total was good for fifth place, ahead of New Orleans (899) and Texas A&M – Commerce and Bradley (901). Host Arkansas State won the event at 850, while Oklahoma Christian (852), Valparaiso (870) and Belmont (887) made up the top-4.

Jay Nimmo led the Racers with a spot in 12^th place in the field of 69 players after scores of 70-75-72=217. Other scores and standings for Murray State included Kamaren Cunningham shooting the best round of the event for the Racers with a final round 71 to get a score line of 75-72-71=218 and a spot in 16^th place. Trey Lewis finished 35^th on scores of 78-76-74=228, while Jakob Wellman had scores of 80-74-76=230. Tyler Powell placed 52nd on rounds of 81-76-78=235.

MSU's John Buchanan was fifth among 14 solo players and placed 45^th on scores of 77-77-78=232.

Devyn Pappas of Arkansas State won the medalist championship after posting rounds of 67-69-68=204.

The Racers play their fifth and final event of the 2022 fall season (Oct. 29-30) at the Grandover Collegiate hosted by UNCG at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
