Young, McKay lead MSU in Valley opener

The Murray State women's basketball team posted a 68-55 win over UIC Friday night at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky in its inaugural game in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Murray State led all but 37 seconds of Friday's contest with its largest lead of the night coming late in the third quarter at 18 points.
The shots just kept falling for the Racers Friday, as they shot 48.9-percent from the floor (23-47), 58-8-percent from 3-point range (10-17) and 85.7-percent from the free throw line (12-14).
Murray State continued to rebound the ball and assist on scoring plays at a high level Friday. The Racers finished the game assisting on 17 of 23 made field goals Friday and outrebounded the Flames as well, 35-25.
Hannah McKay notched her first double-double of the season Friday with 17 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. Alexis Burpo followed McKay on the boards with nine rebounds, to go along with five points.
Katelyn Young continued to prove why she is one of the best players in the nation against UIC, scoring a game-high 21 points while pulling down six rebounds and dishing out five assists. The junior 7-for-10 from the floor on the night, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and a near-perfect 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
