The Murray State Racers (20-2, 10-0) hit the road Thursday for a Ohio Valley Conference game against the Austin Peay Governors (6-11, 2-5). Tip time at the Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tennessee is set for 7:30 p.m. Austin Peay is the final OVC opponent that the Racers haven't met yet this season.
The game is part of the Popeye's Battle of the Border that matches the Racers and Govs in head-to-head competition celebrating one of the best collegiate rivalries in the country. Thursday's game is the first of two in men's basketball with APSU returning the trip to Murray on Feb. 12. A game that will be aired nationally on ESPNU.
Another item to watch this week is that MSU is sitting on 299 wins all-time in their 24th season of the CFSB Center at 299-49 (.858). MSU hosts SIUE Saturday at The Bank.
Racers Find Winning Formula
Now with their 32nd 20-win season in the 97 seasons of the program, the Racers have won 10 in a row making Coach Matt McMahon just the second coach in MSU history to have four winning streaks of 10 or more. The other was MSU's first coach, Carlisle Cutchin, who started the program in 1925 and guided it for 16 seasons. The Racers are 6-1 on the road this season including a 4-0 mark in OVC play. In conference play, the Racers have locked opponents down to lead the OVC in field goal percentage defense (230-of-575, .400) and 3-point field goal defense (90-of-132, .269). Subsequently, through 22 games, the Racers are 68th and 39th in NCAA D-I respectively. In OVC play, the Racers are also the top offensive rebounding team and the second defensive rebounding team.
Brown & Williams - Two Greats
Tevin Brown and KJ Williams are going places in MSU's record book that few players have gone before. Brown is one of only three MSU players to score 1,000 points, grab 500 rebounds and give out 350 assists. Williams is two rebounds from becoming the seventh Racer to score 1,500 points and grab 800 rebounds. Brown hit three 3-pointers Saturday in the Morehead State win to become the OVC career record holder for made 3-point baskets. Brown has surpassed Austin Peay's Joe Sibbitt (1994-98) whose 319 threes had stood as the record for 24 seasons. Brown enters the game ranked seventh in the nation in 3-point field goal attempts (179) and makes (72) and 15th in the nation in three pointers made per game (3.27).
Racers In The Rankings
The Racers continued to move up the national rankings as they were getting more votes in the Associated Press Poll and USA Today Poll. Murray State is 27th in the NCAA Net and 36th in the rankings by KenPom.com. In the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Poll, the Racers moved up to third from fifth last week. MSU was 40th in Jon Rothstein's Top-45.

The worldwide sensation Harlem Globetrotters have announced they will return to Murray State University for an eighth time on February 2, 2022 beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Racers Selected For Two Home Games On ESPNU
The Murray State men's basketball is hosting a pair of televised home games on ESPNU as announced by the Ohio Valley Conference for the 2021-22 season. The Racers will appear on ESPNU (Feb. 17) when they host the Austin Peay Governors at the CFSB Center in a 6 p.m. tip. The second game happens at home (Feb. 24) against the Belmont Bruins in a tip off of 8 p.m. Both of the TV games for the Racers come on Thursday nights. The OVC schedule has a total of nine total men's basketball televised games (six regular season contests and three OVC Tournament games) to be aired by one of the ESPN networks during the 2021-22 season. This includes three nights of coverage at the OVC Tournament (March 4-5) at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.
