Racers Split Opening Day at Mercer Invitational

The Racers fell 2-0 to MTSU before mercy-ruling Mercer 8-0 in five innings
Murray State softball (7-4) split the first day of the Mercer Invitational, falling 2-0 to Middle Tennessee (3-9), followed by a 8-0, five-inning mercy-rule victory over host Mercer (3-10) on Friday in Macon, Georgia.
Game One – Murray State 0, Middle Tennessee 2
It was a pitchers' duel to open the Mercer Invitational between the Racers and the Blue Raiders.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Blue Raiders were finally able to crack the scoreboard, scoring two unearned runs which proved to be enough to take the win over Murray State.
Game Two – Murray State 8, Mercer 0 (5)
After being held off the board the previous game, the Racers bats light up, smashing three home runs against the Bears.
Gracie Osbron and Lindsey Carroll each launched their second home runs of the season, while Taylor Jackson hit her first career home run.
Murray State scored to run in each the first, second, fourth and fifth innings enroot to their fourth mercy-rule win of the season.
In the circle, Hannah James threw her second shutout of the season, giving three hits and striking out four.
The Racers face Middle Tennessee and Mercer again tomorrow to wrap up the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Georgia.
