Young becomes 2nd fastest to 1,000 points

The third-seeded Murray State women's basketball team fell in the OVC semifinals Friday, 68-62, at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. The loss ends the Racers' remarkable 2021-22 campaign at 22-9.

·      The Racers had outstanding first and third quarters, shooting 58.3-percent in the first and 71.4 in the third. However, MSU ran into cold spells in the second and fourth going just 29.4-percent and 17.6-percent from the floor, respectively.

·      Murray State led by as many as eight in the third and led by one with under two minutes to play. However, Tennessee Tech ended the game on a 7-0 run to seal the win.

·      Katelyn Young led MSU in the contest with 22 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. In the second quarter, Young became the 20th member of the Murray State 1,000-point club and became the second fastest to do so, in the process. Young needed just 58 games to get to 1,000 points with only the great Sheila Smith getting there faster in 57.
