Slunder Homers Three Times, Racers Fall to SEMO in Finale

Jake Slunder Became the First Racers Hitter with Multiple Three Home Run Games as MSU Falls 11-10 to SEMO
Murray State (15-15) baseball dropped the series finale to Southeast Missouri 11-10 on Sunday afternoon at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The Racers fell to 1-8 in Ohio Valley Conference play this season.Â
Graduate outfielder Jake Slunder shined for the Racers with the second three-home run game of his career, becoming the first MSU player to achieve such a feat. Slunder also hit three home runs at Morehead State in 2021. MSU's single-game record of four home runs is also tied for the OVC all-time mark, by Tyler Dixon (2016) and Tyler Lawrence (2015). Hitting four homers in a single-game has only been accomplished five times in OVC history with the others coming from Jamey Bennett of Morehead State (1979), Scott Pruneau of Southeast Missouri (1992) and Alex Holderbach of Eastern Kentucky (2018).
Murray State now has 10 instances of a player hitting three homers in a single game after it was first done in 1967 by Phil Hayden.
Murray State Single Game Home Runs
The Cabot, Arkansas native, Jake Slunder continues to lead the Murray State offense with a .336 batting average this season to go along with five triples and now three home runs following today's game.Â
Jacob Pennington played as a two-way player in today's game, starting on the mound for the Racers while also batting second in the MSU lineup. The redshirt sophomore tossed five innings on the hill while he also connected for two hits including a solo home run. Pennington has blasted three home runs this season while also pitching to a 3.37 ERA.
Bryson Bloomer, Drew Vogel, and Riley Hawthorne all had multi-hit performances in the contest with Vogel going for two doubles. Cade Sammons collected a two-RBI triple on the day as the Racers smacked 16 hits on the day.
