Tee Time – Racers Ready For the 73rd OVC Championship

The Racers’ men’s golf team looks for their fifth OVC title in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The Murray State men's golf team looks for their fifth title at the 73rd Ohio Valley Conference championship Sunday through Tuesday (April 24-27) at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The event marks the first time that the OVC Championship has been held in Missouri.
This year's event will include three rounds of stroke play followed by the top four teams advancing to Match Play on the final day. This is the first time Match Play has been used to determine the OVC Champion.
A year after the OVC celebrated the career and then retirement of Coach Eddie Hunt, who guided the Racers for 20 seasons, Murray State's Daniel DeLuca leads the team into the OVC final in his rookie season.
This year's All-OVC awards as well as the Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year awards will be announced prior to Saturday's practice round. The All-Tournament and Tournament MVP awards will be presented at the conclusion of the championship.
Murray State Lineup
Connor Coombs, Sr., Central City, Ky.
Coombs is having a tremendous senior season and worthy of All-OVC honors. His stroke average of 73.0 is seventh in the OVC. He finished 10th at the TSU event on scores of 76-71=147. MSU's most experienced player at the conference event, Coombs is playing in his fourth OVC Championship with previous finishes of 38th, 44th and 34th place.
Kamaren Cunningham, Fr., Dover Tenn.
One the favorites to be OVC Freshman of the Year, Cunningham has three top-20 finishes this season and his stroke average of 74.5 is 24th in the OVC.
Walker Beck, Jr., Newburgh, Ind.
Beck has a scoring average of 76.4 and is appearing in the OVC Championship for the first time.
Tyler Powell, So., Benton, Ky.
With a scoring average of 76.9 in the 2021-22 season, Powell is playing in his second OVC Championship, after carding a 77 in one round a year ago.
Trey Lewis, Fr., Beaver Dam, Ky.
Lewis placed 10th the last time out at the TSU event on rounds of 77-70=147. His stroke average is 75.7 as he is playing in his first OVC Championship.
Quinn Eaton, a senior from Benton, Ky.
Eaton will be the Racers' alternate player. He played two rounds in the OVC a year ago.
