Tee Time – Racers Play Inaugural Carpenter-Chaney Classic

The Racers’ men’s golf team plays match-play in Tunica, Miss. Monday and Tuesday
The Murray State men's golf team competes at the inaugural Carpenter-Chaney Classic (April 4-5) at Tunica National Golf Club in Tunica, Miss.
Co-hosted by UT Martin and Morehead State Monday and Tuesday, The event is the first multi-team match play event for the Racers this season and is a welcome challenge with the Ohio Valley Conference using match play as part of it's men's golf championship later this month in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The event is conducted in a 54-hole match play format in which teach team will play with six players and each team will play three matches either in the winner bracket, or the consolation bracket. The match schedule was set by using the team rankings from GolfStat.com. The schedule for Sunday has No. 1 seed Tennessee Tech against No. 8 seed Tennessee State, (2) UTM vs (7) Austin Peay, (3) Belmont vs (6) Murray State and (4) Morehead State vs (5) SIUE.
Coach Daniel Deluca will have a six-man team including: Connor Coombs, Walker Beck, Kamaren Cunningham, Quinn Eaton, Trey Lewis and Tyler Powell. Pairings will be determined by each coach alternating a reveal of their player for each of the six slots.
The event is named in honor of legendary OVC head golf coaches Jerry Carpenter (UT Martin from 2002-20) and Dr. Rex Chaney (Morehead State from 1976-2014). The two combined to win five OVC championships and six OVC Coach of the Year awards while overseeing six OVC Championship medalists and four OVC Golfers of the Year.

Located in Murray, Kentucky, the athletics department of Murray State University is a NCAA Division I member and plays in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Racers have 15 programs including men's teams for baseball, basketball, cross country, football and golf and women's teams for basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field and volleyball, as well as a mixed gender rifle team. Currently a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Racers will join the Missouri Valley Conference on July 1, 2022.
