With Belmont loss, MSU now tied for first place
The Murray State softball team shutout Morehead State, 1-0, on Senior Day Saturday at Racer Field in Murray Kentucky.
Fast Facts
• The game was a pitcher's duel between the Racers' Hannah James and Morehead State's Lennon Spicer. James allowed four hits while striking out seven, while Spiced allowed just three hits, but also gave up three walks and had four strikeouts
• The lone scoring of the day came in the bottom of the fourth and began when Lily Fischer drew a one-out walk. Lindsey Carroll drove Fischer home in the very next at bat for the score and the eventual 1-0 win.
• With seven Saturday, James is at 199 strikeouts and counting for the season. She needs just one more to become the first Racer in program history to reach the 200-strikeout milestone.
• Murray State is now 36-14-1 on the year and 20-6 in the OVC. With the Belmont loss at Southeast Missouri Saturday, the Racers and Bruins are now tied atop the league standings with two games remaining each team. At season's end, any tie would result in co-champions being declared between the two schools, however Murray State would earn the top seed in next week's OVC championship by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.
What's Next
The Racers return to Racer Field for the final time in the 2022 season when they close out the series against Morehead State with a doubleheader, beginning at 12 p.m.
