Racers Net 700th Goal in Program History, Drop to Lady Techsters in Season Opener

Murray State fell to Louisiana Tech 2-1 in the first match of the 2022 season, Hailey Cole netted the program’s 700th all-time goal
Murray State women's soccer dropped the opening match of the 2022 season 2-1 against Louisiana Tech on Friday in Ruston, La. The Racers were able to capture a huge milestone for the program, scoring for the 700th time in the program's 23-year history.
The first big chance of the game came in the 14th minute when Morgan Parker nearly tucked away the Racers first goal but a goal-line clearance from the Lady Techsters prevented the chance.
It looked like LA Tech would take the lead in the 31st minute following a soft touch over MSU defense led to a one-on-one chance that was saved brilliantly by goalkeeper Jamie Skarupsky. Lousiana Tech opened the scoring in the 39th minute on a perfectly placed header in the top right corner of the goal.
Junior midfielder Hailey Cole netted the Racers lone goal on the day on a beautiful strike from 17 yards out with an assist being earned by freshman Sydney Etter. The goal would be the 700th in program history. MSU was able to put up nine shots with four on goal.
Murray State moves their focus to Georgia State for a Sunday matchup at Cutchin Field scheduled for 1 p.m. Coverage can be found on ESPN+ and GoRacers.com.
