Racers grab first MVC win over Indiana State
Murray State volleyball grabbed their first Missouri Valley Conference win with a 3-1 win over Indiana State at Racer Arena, Friday.
The Racers took the first set with dominance, 25 to 17. They were able to take the second set before dropping the third.Â
The fourth set was a back and forth fight as both teams refuse to back down through two deuces. Elisa Dozio was able to seal the deal with a service ace at match point.
"I think it is great for the women of the team to be able to get a win in the MVC as it is quite a step in competition from the (Ohio Valley Conference)," said assistant coach, Colton Reinholtz. "We belong here."
Reinholtz said the girls are used to battles from practices which translates to how the team came back from dropping the third set.
Bailey DeMier continues to play orchestrator with a total of 44 assists to average 11 per set. DeMier also recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 15 digs to come along with the assists.
Federica Nuccio proves her worth as a two-way player by recording her 11th double-double of the season, leading the kills with 17 while also making 17 digs. Following closely was Jayla Holcombe with 16 kills.
Breakout performance was from freshman middle blocker, Haidi Miliou, who recorded a season high of six blocks, for of which are solo blocks. She also made a season high in kills with 10.
"This week we worked a lot with our middle blockers," Reinholtz said. "Haidi has been working with Bailey a lot to build that connection. Now that the middle blockers are working, we can get good results."
The Racers will face Evansville at home, Saturday.
