Murray State women’s tennis grabs back-to-back wins in season opener

Murray State women's tennis opened their season strong with two wins over Southern Indiana and Cumberland, Friday.

The Racers opened the weekend with a 6-1 win over Southern Indiana. Jordina Font and Sarah Bureau doubles pair closed the first match against USI with a 6-1 win. Natalie Slezakova and Anika Pschorr clinched the doubles portion of the match with a 6-3 win.

Emma Honore is first to put the Racers in the win column against USI (6-1, 6-0), and Slezakova clinched the match with a two-set win (6-2, 6-0).

MSU then grab another 6-1 win over Cumberland, with Slezakova and Pschorr pair putting the Racers first in the win column. The Font and Bureau pair clinched the doubles portion of the match.

Pschorr then won the first flight in two sets of the singles portion to put the Racers ahead. Honore clinched the match by winning the second flight in two sets.

"These two matches were great to brush some of the dust off and get some good reps in. The girls did a good job overall taking control of their matches and I am pleased with everyone's performance," said head coach Jorge Caetano.

It was remarkable to see Maggie and Megan making their debut as Racers, they had very close matches, and their opponents just played a little better in some of the key points, but I am very proud of them for leaving it all out there."

"We are looking forward to hosting Lipscomb as this will be a great test to see where we are as a team since Lipscomb is a very familiar opponent and a similar type of competition we will face in the MVC," said Caetano.
