In their first meeting, the Racers met South Dakota State in The DakotaDome
Â
The Racers (2-3) are 1-1 in Missouri Valley Football Conference as they host the Southern Illinois Salukis Saturday for homecoming at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Kentucky.
Â
MSU trailed 14-0 when DJ Williams hit Q'Daryius Jennings on a 56-yard scoring pass to make it a 14-7 game with 10:02 before half. The Racers trailed 21-7 at the halftime intermission.
Â
The Racers were driving to make a one-score game late in the third quarter when Williams connected with Jawaun Northington on a pass play that was a certain touchdown. However, Northington was stopped by a pair of Coyote defenders that caused a fumble that USD recovered in the end zone. The Coyotes drove into the fourth quarter and took a 24-7 lead with a field goal with 13:48 remaining.

Game Notes
- Jacob Frye (C) Sr., Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Delonte Jones (OLB) Sr., Harvey, Ill., took the coin toss as captains for the Racers.   Â
- The Racers' appearance in The DakotaDome was just their third game in a domed stadium in program history.
- When the 2001 schedule was altered because of 9/11, the Racers played Minnesota at the Metro Dome in Minneapolis (10-27-11) in a 66-10 loss to the Gophers.
- The last time MSU played indoors was in 2010 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta (10-08-11) in a 48-24 win over Georgia State.
- Orion Phillips booted his seventh punt of more than 50 yards today. He now has seven this season.
- DJ Williams' run of consecutive passing attempts without an interception ended at 140 with an interception at 5:36 of the fourth quarter. It's the best streak for the Racers since Shuler Bentley went 202 passes between the 2017-18 seasons.
- South Dakota is set to visit Murray on Oct. 5, 2024.
- Cade Shupperd led the Racer defense with 11 total tackles, while Justus Johnson added nine.
