Racers Fall To App State at Fort Myers Tipoff

The Murray State Racers met the Appalachian State Mountaineers for the first time in program history Wednesday at the final day of the Fort Myers Tipoff at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Florida.
The Murray State Racers dropped a 67-57 decision Wednesday in their final game of the Fort Myers Tipoff at Suncoast Credit Union Arena to the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the first meeting with App State in program history.

Brian Moore, Jr. led the Racers with 18 points, while JaCobi Wood scored 11 an Nick Ellington and Rob Perry each scored 10 on a day when the MSU had a tough day shooting on 22-of-58 for 38 percent.

MSU had a couple of short runs in the first half including a period at the 9:30 mark when they held App State to five-straight trips scoreless and took at 16-13 lead on Moore's free throw. MSU hit 5-of-6 from the field to get a 26-23 lead at 4:48 on Perry's first 3-pointer of the game. The Racers went scoreless in the final 2:05 and App State had the lead 33-28 at the halftime intermission.

MSU had four chances to take the lead in the second half and had it down to a 52-49 game with 7:00 on a basket by Moore. MSU trailed by eight points with 2:11 left.

The Racers (2-3) now prepare for the early pair of games in the Missouri Valley Conference. MSU hosts the Bradley Braves Wednesday (Nov. 29) at the CFSB Center on Racers Day of Giving and SAAC Food Drive.Â

- The Racers were home team on the scoreboard and wore their home white uniforms.
- Ellington, Moore, Perry, Walker and Wood gave the Racers the same starting-5 in the first five games of the season.
- The 12-team Missouri Valley Conference gets going for the Racers with a pair of early-season games. On Wednesday (Nov. 29), the Racers host the Bradley Braves at 7 p.m. at the CFSB Center. The game promotion is the Racers Day of Giving and SAAC Food Drive.
