The Racers add to Coach Steve Prohm’s 2024-25 signing class
Murray State men's basketball coach Steve Prohm announced the signing of DJ Shine who will join the Racers for the 2024-25 season as a freshman.
Â
Shine a 6-1 guard out of Augusta, Ga., is playing his senior season at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.
Â
"We are very glad to add DJ to our Racer Nation family," Coach Prohm said. "He brings a skillset to Murray that will fit well with how we want to play. His ability to shoot the basketball and spread out the defense is going to give him an opportunity to play early. He's going to bring toughness, work ethic and academic success to our program and that will mesh nicely with our culture and foundation. This coming season he will spend at Brewster Academy is going to help his development and learning curve as he continues to make the jump to college basketball."
Â
Shine is ranked 149th in the Rivals 2024 class, and 139th in the HoopSeen 2024 class.
Â
Shine played the 2022-23 season at Augusta Christian where he led his team to a 26-5 record on the way to a SCISA 4A State Championship. He scored 23 points per game, grabbed 6.0 rebounds and dished out 5.0 assists. Shine is a two-time state champion in South Carolina who was All-Region First Team and named to the All-State Tournament Team. A career 1000-point scorer, Shine was MVP of the Ricky Moore Invitational, Tarkanian Classic, and Bojangles Classic. He played for the Upward Stars organization on the Adidas 3SSB circuit.
Â
"DJ is a gym rat and wonderful member of our community," said Brewster Head Coach Jason Smith. "DJ is very capable of playing on the ball and off it. He reminds me a lot of our former players Jamaal Mashburn, Jr., and Thomas Allen. DJ is similar in that all of them are undersized as a two-guard, but they are exceptional shooters and are also great point guards. Murray State is a great fit for DJ and the staff with the Racers did a great job of building a relationship with him and his family."
